Sometimes despite having had amazing breastfeeding help, and everyone saying “your baby’s latch looks perfect” it just hurts! No matter what you try you’re in pain when feeding, your nipples are pinched, cracked or even bleeding and you’re definitely not looking forward to the next feed. Frenotomy, the procedure used to divide a tongue tie is sometimes the option and may resolve your problems. A thorough breastfeeding assessment, assessment of how well your baby is moving his or her tongue, followed by a discussion of my findings will help you to make a decision if the procedure is suitable fr your baby. We can then proceed with frenotomy at that appointment, or we can wait and do it a follow up visit depending on my assessment and any improvements that we have managed to achieve during the session.
