A little about me

The way my grandmother cared for families still shapes how I work: with time to listen, explain and stay present.
I’m a mum and midwife living in Maidenhead, with my family close by. My maternal grandmother attended births in the early 1900s, earning £5 per year and staying with families for days at a time. She also raised 13 children of her own.
As a teenager, I listened to her stories without realising she had been a midwife. When I started training in my thirties, those memories took on a different meaning: she had been sharing her experience with me all along.
Today, I want families to feel heard, not hurried. I make space for the questions you had planned and the ones that come to mind once we start talking.
More about my journey
I wish I’d paid more attention to those conversations. During my first year of training, learning about pregnancy helped me recognise the knowledge behind the stories she had told me.
I went on to work in the NHS and the birth centre at St John & St Elizabeth’s Hospital. In 2010, I became an independent midwife so I could support families in a more personal and rewarding way.
